Sony Ericsson W960

Sony Ericsson recently announced its latest walkman phone, the W960 along with an assortment of its other new announcements which I think will be pretty promising. The W960 is the latest evolution in the walkman range of mobile phones. It packs a punch with the combination of the Symbian and the UIQ smartphone UI.The SonyEricsson W960 measures 109mm×55mm×16mm and weights 119 grams. Now it isn’t the slimmest phone that you can get in the market, but considering its integrated features, the W960 music phone is one of the slimmest multimedia phones in the market. It’s got an 8GB on board memory(sorry,no memery slot….but do you even need one). You can approximately stuff in some 8000 songs thats about 700 albums worth of space.I think thats more than one reallly needs.SonyEricsson claims that the W960 is able to play 25 hours of music continuously. With the new released SonyEricsson “Media manager Pro” software, you would be able to upload 1GB of songs in less than 3 minutes. The W960 has got a 3.2 MP 2048×1536 pixels, autofocus, video(VGA), flash; secondary VGA videocall camera phone which obviously cannot match up to the K850 but can still beat quite a lot of other camera oreiented phones out there in the market. It has 2.6-inch touchscreen dsiplay(320×240 pixel) and intergrated WiFi.Coming to the DATA related features, sorry it doesn’t have the EDGE and the HSCSD technology but it has got the UMTS Technology.Besides that, the W960 also support 3D games, movie playback, RSS feeder, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync to check your corporate email accounts, and opening and editing office documents. Some are now discussing the pro’s and cons’s of owning the W960 or the iPhone.Well, here goes:

The W960 has the following over the iPhone:

  • 3G (UMTS) MMS,
  • Keyboard better camera (2mp on iphone with no autofocus compaired to 3mp with autofocus) possible to use third part apps.

The iPhone has the following over the W960i:

  • Better user interface,
  • EDGE a definite better screen Network related issues (In India presently)

Although I myself own a Sony Ericsson and most appliances at my place are Sony,I am a wee bit biased toward the company. For now I’d suggest the Sony Ericsson over the iPhone as the iPhone is going to be new in the market. If the iPhone can catch up with the frenzy of demand for mobile phones in India then I think its going to be worth it.
