Everyone has heard about the Nokia’s most rugged phone, the Nokia 3720. But did anyone know about that Samsung has already launched a rugged phone of its own, Samsung B2100.

Since there was no previous post about Samsung B2100, this post will try to cover everything about the phone.

Comparison of Nokia 3720 and Samsung B100 in regards to their Technical Specifications :

Network :
Nokia 3720: 2G Network – GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900
Samsung B2100 : 2G Network – GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
Result : Both phones do not support 3G, and have similar bands.

Size and Weight :
Nokia 3720 : 115 x 47 x 15.3 mm, 94g
Samsung B2100 : 113 x 48.9 x 17.4 mm, 102.8g
Result : Samsung B2100 is 2.1 mm thicker and slightly heavier than Nokia 3720.

Show (Type and Size) :
Nokia 3720 : TFT(16M colors), 240 x 320 pixels, 2.2 inches
Samsung B2100 : TFT (256K colors), 120 x 160 pixels, 1.77 inches
Result : Though both phones have TFT show, Nokia 3720 has more colours and better resolution as compared to Samsung B2100.

Memory (Internal and External) :
Nokia 3720 : 20 MB, microSD (TransFlash) up to 8GB, 1GB card included.
Samsung B2100 : 7MB, microSD (TransFlash) up to 8GB.
Result : Both have card slot for upto 8GB microSD cards but Nokia 3720 has massive internal memory in competition to its rival Samsung B2100.

Camera :
Nokia 3720 : 2 MP, 1600×1200 pixels, LED flash
Samsung B2100 : 1.3 MP, 1280 x 1024 pixels, flash
Result : Nokia 3720 has a slightly better camera than Samsung B2100 but both of them have the ability to take video.

Features :
Nokia 3720 : IP54 certified – dust and water jets resistant
Samsung B2100 : Shock, water and dust resistant (IP57, MIL-STD-810F), Water proof up to 1 meter and 30 minutes, Anti-shock materials (urethane), Noise cancellation with dedicated microphone
Result : Both phones can dust, shock and water resistant, but Samsung B2100 can survive better in all three of those conditions but Nokia 3720 is also not terrible.

Price :
Nokia 3720 : 125 € (175 $/ Rs 8,500)
Samsung B2100 : 130 € (approximately $187, Rs 8800)
Result : Even with excellent features Nokia 3720 is cheaper than Samsung B2100.

Overall Result : Nokia 3720 has proved that it is the best rugged phone, as it leads in all front against Samsung B2100. Not only is it rugged but also very low in price. Now Samsung will have to try more harder to come back in the competition and win.

On 9th July 2009, Nokia finally unveiled its most rugged phone – Nokia 3720 Classic. But before I tell you why its rugged part is hyped I want to make a note that the phone also has excellent looks.

Nokia has been testing 3720 in various environments and various conditions just to make sure that the phone is really rugged and not just says so.

Over the last couple of days 3720 classic has been kicked , hit with a golf club, dropped from the top of a ladder, taken for a swim, dunked in beer, sunk in jelly and shot with a paintball gun. Hence the title ‘rugged’. Nokia 3720 is built to IP-54 standards and therefore is designed to resist water, dust and shock.

According to Markku Suomi, VP Connect devices at Nokia :

Whether using it at the beach or in a dusty construction site, the Nokia 3720 classic has been specifically engineered to withstand the splashes, bumps and drops that come with the terrain

The phone is not just rugged from the inside but also from the outside. Nokia 3720 panels are specially designed to withhold any hurt from occurring. In a normal phone the backside battery panel easily come off, but in Nokia 3720 the panel is screwed so that the battery doesn’t gets affected during a fall and this technique also helps to protect the internal circuitry of the phone.

Nokia 3720 will be available in wide range of colurs and most probably will be available in the market by mids of this year. The price of the phone is expected to be around 125 € (175 $/ Rs 8,500)

After making Nokia 3720 official, its technical specifications were also released by Nokia. They are as follows :
